Limited to one group per day, “SUI and SUI” is a carefully renovated 150-year-old townhouse offering a unique lodging experience. The warmth of reclaimed wood, which tells the history of Gujo Hachiman, harmonizes with modern amenities designed for everyday comfort, creating an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and relaxing.
With bathrooms on both the first and second floors, the design allows travelers to enjoy quiet moments at their own pace, making it ideal for extended stays.
We also provide books that introduce Gujo’s culture and offer free bicycle rentals.

We do not permit additional guests without prior approval, and additional charges will apply if such guests are discovered. It’s also the perfect place to safely store your prized bicycles and skis.

At Sui and Sui, the design brings to life the materials of a traditional Japanese house, featuring driftwood handles, shelving stairs, and antique decorative glass that can no longer be produced today. Connecting the remnants of a bygone way of life to the present, the space itself quietly weaves a story.
Since ancient times, the Japanese have found beauty in the interplay of light and shadow.
Enveloped in the soft light streaming in from the courtyard, listen closely to the whispers of the past and experience the passage of time that has been passed down in this place. -
Let’s go find the hidden Enku statues
Enku is said to have traveled throughout the country and carved as many as 120,000 Buddha statues in his lifetime.
These Enku Buddhas were once familiar and beloved figures in people’s daily lives—children used them as makeshift floats or tied strings to them to drag around while playing. At SUISUI, these little Buddhas are gently placed here and there. From simple carvings made by local elementary school students to authentic works crafted by professional sculptors, a diverse array of expressions is on display.
